The focus of this looped self-guided GPS route (as downloadable TCX/GPX files) is to experience the raw nature of the mountains of Lessinia. The area is cycling mecca for cyclists from all around il Veneto. There are several Gran Fondo that share these awesome roads, which provide a stunning view over the plains of the Veneto and Verona at times, and the pre-Dolomiti to the north. The Tour of the Alps (ex-giro di Trentino) also passes through here often, because of the challenging terrain.
You will head north towards Passo dello Banchetto, the highest point (1,590m) and winter resort, so be sure to take appropriate clothing as the road to the Malga is exposed and often windy. The descent to the recommended lunch stop is thoroughly enjoyable, but be sure to watch for cows in the road as Lessinia is famous for cheese production.
Camposilvano is home to one of the best agriturismo in the area, Roberto di Gaspari Farm. So you may want to book in advance to avoid disappointment. From there you continue in descent to Badia Calavena on a fantastic road, smooth and quite technical so watch the corners. You may wish to refuel or just go straight into the climb, approx. 12km but a steady 6-7%, until the end with short stretches of 10-12%. You next stop is the local delight Malga Vazzo which sells some of Lessinias best ice-cream and well worth a visit, even just for the views. Hotel La Pineta is only several kilometres away, so don’t load up too much otherwise you’ll spoil your dining experience!
